Captain Renee J. Squier, USN, Director of Strategy for the Chief of Naval Personnel
Captain Renee Squier, a native of Michigan, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Boston University in 1991. She began her career as a Surface Warfare Officer, serving on USS Mars (AFS1) as the Combat Information Center Officer and USS Niagara Falls (AFS3) as the Boilers Officer. She was one of the first women stationed on a combatant following the repeal of the combat exclusion law for women on surface ships, serving as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer on USS Paul F Foster (DD964). She was the Protocol Officer for Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific, and she also served as the Operations Officer for Maritime Prepositioning Ships Squadron Three, and as the Civil Military Affairs officer for Commander, Naval Forces Marianas.
Captain Squier became a Human Resources Officer in 2001, and has served as the department head for enlisted recruiting in Indianapolis, Ind., the Commander of the Military Entrance Processing Station in Springfield, Mass., and as the Recruiting Liaison Officer to the OPNAV staff. From 2010-2013 she served as the Deputy and then the Head of Enlisted Plans and Policy on the OPNAV staff, responsible for accession, retention, and promotion planning and execution for the entire active and reserve Navy enlisted force. From 2014-2015, she was the Head of Diversity and Inclusion for the Navy. Most recently she was the Chief of Staff for Naval Sea Systems Command, and is currently serving as the Director of Strategy for the Chief of Naval Personnel.
Captain Squier holds master’s degrees in Human Resources Management from Troy University and National Resource Strategy from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School at National Defense University. She also holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Northcentral University.
She is entitled to wear the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and other various personal, unit and service awards.
